Danger Zone
Irreversible workspace operations including permanent deletion of all data
Danger Zone
This section contains powerful, irreversible operations that should only be performed when you're absolutely certain. Read each option carefully before proceeding.
Note: Workspace deletion is currently in development. The UI presents the full confirmation flow, but the actual deletion handler displays a "not yet implemented" message.
Delete Workspace
Permanently delete your define.wtf workspace and all associated data.
What Gets Deleted
- All acronyms and definitions
- All user accounts and activity
- All categories, collections, and tags
- All audit logs
- All settings and integrations (Slack, SSO, SCIM, webhooks, etc.)
This action is permanent and cannot be undone. You will not be able to recover any data after deletion.
Who Can Delete a Workspace
- Workspace owners only — Requires owner-level permission
- Single owner confirmation is required
How to Delete a Workspace
Step 1: Access Danger Zone
- Go to Settings → Danger Zone (visible to owners only)
- You'll see the "Delete Tenant" option
- Click Delete Tenant
Step 2: Confirm Workspace Slug
A confirmation dialog will appear asking you to type your workspace slug exactly:
Type the workspace slug to confirm deletion: [ ]- The slug is your unique workspace identifier (e.g.,
acme-corp) - Spelling and case must match exactly
- This prevents accidental deletions
- If you don't know your slug, check your workspace URL or go to Settings → Branding
Step 3: Final Confirmation
After entering your slug, a second confirmation dialog appears:
Are you sure? This cannot be undone.
All data will be deleted.
[Cancel] [Confirm]Click Confirm to initiate deletion.
Data Retention After Deletion
- Define.wtf does not retain any workspace data after deletion
- Your data is securely wiped from all backup systems within 30 days
Can I Recover My Workspace After Deletion?
No. Workspace deletion is permanent and irreversible. Before deleting:
- Export your data — Go to your workspace and manually export acronyms if needed
- Take screenshots — Capture important definitions or settings
- Notify your team — Let users know the workspace is being deleted
- Wait 24 hours — Sleep on the decision before proceeding
Current Status
The workspace deletion feature is currently in development. The UI shows the confirmation flow, but when you click the final "Confirm" button, a message appears indicating "Tenant deletion is not yet implemented." This means:
- The confirmation dialog works correctly
- You can test the confirmation flow
- The actual deletion does not occur yet
- You will not accidentally delete your workspace
Common Reasons to Delete a Workspace
- Team is dissolving or restructuring
- Migrating to a new platform
- Workspace was created for testing/trial
- Data needs to be completely purged for compliance reasons
Alternatives to Deletion
Before deleting, consider these options:
- Export and keep offline — Download all data and store locally
- Transfer to new workspace — Create a new workspace and manually import data
- Restrict access — Change all users to "Viewer" role to prevent edits while keeping the workspace
- Disable integrations — Turn off SSO/SCIM to prevent new users from accessing
Security Considerations
- Access control — Only workspace owners can access the Danger Zone
- Confirmation steps — Multi-step confirmations prevent accidental deletions
- Slug verification — Requires exact slug match to confirm intent
- No undo button — Intentionally absent to emphasize permanence

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens to my Slack workspace if I delete my define.wtf workspace?
A: Your Slack workspace is unaffected. The /define command will stop working, but your Slack data remains. You can reconnect define.wtf to Slack later if you create a new workspace.
Q: Can I delete just one user's data instead of the whole workspace? A: No, but you can deactivate users individually in Settings → Members. To hard-delete a specific user's data, contact support with owner-level authorization.
Q: What if someone deletes the workspace by mistake? A: Unfortunately, this cannot be reversed. The multi-step confirmation process is designed to prevent accidents, but once deleted, the workspace is gone permanently. This is why we require exact slug confirmation.
Q: Is there an API endpoint to delete a workspace? A: No. Workspace deletion is only available through the admin dashboard with owner confirmation, not via API.
Q: When will workspace deletion be fully implemented? A: Check back soon — the feature is actively in development and will be available once testing is complete.
